Conley to coach Blockhouse Bay
PA Wellington The sacked Christchurch United soccer coach, Mr Terry Conley, will coach the Auckland Blockhouse Bay side next season.
Mr Conley is at present in Korea managing the New Zealand team at the President’s Cup tournament, but Blockhouse Bay has received a letter from him accepting a three-year contract with the club.
Mr Conley was sacked by Christchurch United just before the New Zealand team left for Korea, because he accepted the offer to manage the national side. That left the club in the hands of the deputy 7 coach, Mr Brian Hardman, for the remaining national league games of the season.
The Blockhouse Bay secretary, Mr Doug Cantley, said from Auckland yesterday that he was delighted at Mr Conley’s acceptance of the Bay’s offer to begin a contract on January 1.
“Terry has a big reputation as a coach, and the
whole club is very happy to have him,” he said. Mr Conley is replacing Mr Wally Hughes as the Blockhouse Bay coach. Mr Hughes left the club about a month ago to take up a lucrative coaching contract in oil-rich Dubai.
