Greg Robinson a royal chance
Special correspondent Auckland Greg Robinson would need only to improve slightly on his performance at Alexandra Park last Saturday io have a royal chance on the s cond night of the Auckland Trotting club's meeting tonight. He is engaged in the first leg of the T.A.B. double, the St Helliers Handicap. The race has drawn much the same field as that which contested the September Handicap on the first night when Greg Robinson was fourth to Bronze Trail, Rondel and Rebecca's Pride. Bronze Trail and Rebecca’s Pride have dropped out and a newcomer is the highly regarded Christchurch visitor Trevino.
Greg Robinson is bound to be all the better for the race last week, his first for six months. And the distance of tonight’s race, 2700 metres will also suit him more than the 2200 metres of the September Handicap. As well, he is on the front mark. He had to give starts of up to 20 metres to those who finished ahead of him last Saturday. Pleasant Command, like Greg Robinson a northern hope for the New Zealand Trotting Cup this year, will have a big following. He was running on solidly at the end of the September Handicap and was only shaded by Greg Robinson. It was his first race of the season so he, tod, should be improved. Rondel must have a good chance on the strength his good showing in the September Handicap and ttyere will be solid support for Trevino and Myron. Trevino resumed racing at Hutt Park recently after a layoff of over eight months due to a troublesome knee. He performed impressively, winning easily on the first night of the meeting and
finishing second on the seciond night. I Being on a C 8 mark. : Myron is badly placed in ! having to meet on level marks horses with assessments of C 9 and faster. On his run on the September Handicap, however, he could be a threat. Ceffyl Du. Michael's Advice and Gerry Junior look the best prospects for the second leg, the Papatoetoe Handicap. Ceffyl Du would not win many marks for consistency but he is decidedly useful when he puts his best foot forward. On the first night, he lost by only a nose to the talented Parisian Doctor. Being a solid stayer, lie should appreciate the longer journey. 2700 metres against 2200 m. Michael's Advise and Gerry Junior shaped well last week and they are nicely placed on the front mark. Others entitled to strong consideration include Tunny, Canis Minor and Wiri Lady’ T.A.B.
