Labourers back

■ PA Dunedin Dunedin City Council labourers returned to work at 10 a.m. yesterday after being on strike since July 19. Gas workers who went out on strike at midnight on Thursday in support of the labourers have also gone back. The return to work allowed the compulsory conference between the City Council and the unions to begin.

, Leading the case for the union is the Federation of Labour secretary, (Mr J. Knox). The city council is determined that it will not set the inflation ball rolling by increasing its 11.73 per cent wage rise offer, and the union is still hanging on for a 25 per cent increase. The main issue is the format of the conciliation talks. The union said that it would not go to conciliation under the city claim.
