Limited phoning

PA Auckland New Zealanders hoping to telephone Australia face little prospect of getting through.

The International Telephone Exchange in Auckland is accepting only urgent calls or "death calls” between the two countries. The strike by telecommunications technicians in New South Wales and Victoria is now in its twelfth day. The manager of Audklands toll exchange (Mr N. Jones) said that there was an indefinite delay on calls to Australia. “We’ve got only two circuits via Bisbane,” he said. Telegraph and telex services between the two countries have also been affected.
