Leis face it: New Zealanders have had a pretty rough ride over the past few years. Inflation has 1 - eroded our spending power, wage restrictions have been imposed, unemployment has risen a ” '<•* and strikes by militant unions have been frequent occurrences as their leaders-fought for a v ‘’ bigger share of a smaller cake. , > * These difficult problems of the past years all began with the Labour Government’s last term of office. In three short years they managed to almost wreck the New Zealand rfGW' • Pt'--. x , <- \ economy. Their Government created an artificial boom by spending $1,200 million a year \ \ more than it was receiving in taxation. As demand soared and inflation was rampant they permitted import costs to exceed overseas earnings by $l,OOO million. But in November 1975 New Zealanders had their chance and reacted to that irrespon- *L 3 sible Labour Government by sweeping National back into office in record numbers. National promised to restore New Zealand’s shattered economy but we warned that it wouldn’t be easy. And it wasn’t. For three years we have had to face some unpleasant medicine and severe hardships. MB* 1 * But now the signs of recovery are evident. The inflation rate ot almost 16% in 1975 has dropped to single figures, Government spending has been dramatically reduced and imports % are now less than the value of exports. Record personal, tax cuts and increased benefits have been announced in this year’s budget coupled with manufacturers’ incentives to increase exports and for farmers to increase their production. These moves will make a .*<- SIR / positive contribution to an improved standard of living for everyone. fW Now that National has placed New Zealand firmly on the road to economic recovery we can all go forward together and help make it a better place to live in. Let’s face it, National is the only choice for Government. David forYALDHURST JiMffiMMß -'Jk write or phone anytime. jM , : sj< |p BB P.O.
