Zoo wary of vandals
PA Auckland Security will be strength- ’ ened at Auckland Zoo after attacks on animals by van«, dais last week-end. A wallaby and an emu died after being provoked by ■ young vandals who broke into the zoo on Saturday night. A peahen was thrown 1
into the bear pit and two jaguars were injured. The zoo’s director (Mr D. Wood) said the vandals were lucky to have escaped unscathed. Animals were often put into different enclosures overnight and trespassers might open a service door and find more than they bargained for.
