Canterbury had a good win over North Shore but lost to the undefeated Hamilton team in section two of the national first division women’s basketball championships at th* Auckland Y.W.C.A. last night. And in section one the shock defeat of Napier to Auckland on Wednesday was followed by another upset loss to Wellington yesterday. Both losses were by only one point. Auckland gained its victory over the defending champion by 48-47 while Wellington, which was not expected to pose a challenge, beat Napier,

45-44. However, on a count-back, Napier, with one win, has qualified for post-section play. In section two, Hamilton will go into the final play-offs with Canterbury, which has two wins in section play.

Results:— Section one.—Otago 55, Wellington 44; Auckland 48, Napier 47; Auckland 59, Otago 53; Weilington 45, Napier 44. Points: Auckland 6, Napier 2, Wellington 2, Otago 2. Section two.—Canterbury 95, North Shore 74; Hamilton 56, Nelson 40; Nelson 63, North Shore 53; Hamilton 59, Canterbury 54. Points: Hamilton 6, Canterbury 4, North Shore 0.
