Shop staff stop work
About 500 Christchurch shop assistants attended the first stop-work meeting held under the terms of their award yesterday. They decided to ask their assessors to continue to oppose widening shop trading hours, and agreed to hold another stopwork during the award negotiations later this year. Although there is no obligation on shop employers to pay staff who went to the meeting, several big stores have said they will pav their staff for this time off.
