Radio auction
Radio 3ZB, in conjunction with the Hornby Rotary Club, will hold a “radio auction” on Friday to raise the remaining $4OOO needed for a four-wheel drive rescue ambulance for the Otira■Arthur's Pass Equipment Society. The Society was formed soon after a fatal road accident in 1975 when Otira residents were unable to help the injured through lack of equipment. The nearest ambulance to Arthur's Pass — at Greymouth — is over an hours journey away. The Society's records show 'an average of 22 accidents in
the district over the last four! years and a half. The Hornby' Rotary Club, became involved in the pro-! ject two years ago. and has raised about $17,000 of' the $21,000 needed for a storage; building and the rescue vehicle. "Public response has been! tremendous so far and we have already run out of auction catalogues,” s id the; 3ZB publicity' and promotions 1 , officer (Mr R. Densem). The Television One news- ■ reader, Bill McCarthy, will be the guest auctioneer and will begin the auction at 8 a.m. on Friday.
