Medal chance in shooting
NZPA Edmonton The New Zealand trap shooter, Aubrey Lassen looked a possible medal prospect at the half-way point of the international claypigeon event at the Strathcona range yesterday. The second and final section of the shoot will be fired today. Lassen scored an 88 out of a possible 100 in strong winds to out him in seventh place, six points behind the leader, John Primrose (Canada), on 92. Primrose had a two-point lead over the Australian, Terry Humble, with Ken Wilson (England). Sing Randhir (Ihdia). and Jim Ellis (Australia) tied for third on 89. Primrose and Randhir, each with 25. were the only shooters to record possibles and there were only four 245. Brian Cummings the other
New Zealander in the event, collapsed with a 74 and had only one man behind him in the 19strong field, Lassen missed four targets in his first 25 and six in his see ond, scoring 21 and 19. The wind dropped In the second half of the shoot and Las sen steadied, firing two 235. Cummings’s totals were 19, 14, 17. and 21. The Aucklander. Barrie Wickens. finished ninth in the free-pistoi shoot in a 21-man field. He fired 532 out of a possible 600. 11 behind the gold medallist the French-Canadian Yvon Trempe, on 543.
In the six rounds of 100. Wickens had scores of 81, 88, 91. 93. 85. and 94. His last round of 94 was exceeded onlv by Trempe’s 95 in the fourth round. There was onlv one other 94 in the competition.
