Basketball win for N.Z.
PA Auckland New Zealand scored a heartening 77-75 basketball win over the American side, Athletes in Mission on Saturday night. The win, after the 73-73 draw in the first international against the A.I.M. side at Rotorua on Friday night, gave New Zealand victory in the two-match series. The New Zealand side leaves next Sunday for the inaugural Commonwealth basketball championships in Britain. It was not the best basketball seen from an American team this year but it gave opportunity to the home side to show that it too had skills which it is confidently using. Mr Jim Poteet, the A.I.M. coach who is making his fourth visit to New Zealand said he had noticed the improvement in this country’s basketball. Results: New Zealand 77 (S. Hill 36, J. van Uden 15, J. Rademakers 12, S. Ferguson 11, W. Meehl 2, J. Hill 1); A.I.M. 75 (T. Hibbard 20, J. Fincher 12, D. Mills 8, J. Dibene 8, J. Finkbeiner 8, G. Franklin 6, R. Martin 6, G. Herndon 2, R. Johnson 3).
