Bowls Pair slips

New Zealand was not so successful in the pairs section of the first day of the Commonwealth Games when Bob McDonald and Ivan Kostanich dropped their second successive match, they lost to Clementi Delgado and Eric Liddell, of Hong Kong, 16-23, after losing to Canada, 12-28. The New Zealanders found a. better line in the afternoon and actually led 13-12 at the sixteenth end but Hong Kong scored a four and three on the next two ends to break into a winning lead. In the end it was the

mutiple scoring by Hong Kong which spelt the difference for they scored 15 shots from five ends. A little-known Canadian pair. Graham Jarvis and Ronald Jones, made full use of local knowledge as they demoralised New Zealanders, in their first match.

A five by the Canadians on the fourteenth end shattered the challenge of the New Zealanders.

After a slow beginning, McDonald and Kostanich tried gallantly to get in the match by reaching 17-10 on the thirteenth after trailing, 2-16, but the Canadians came back.
