Fertiliser bid delay?
PA Wellington The Government appears to have told Ravensdown to settle its differences with New Zealand Farmers Fertiliser before it will agree to release producer board funds Ravensdown needs to gain control of Kempthome Prosser.
The Ravensdown chairman, Mr P. H. Elworthy, and Mr R A. Brierley, of Brierley Investments, met the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) at
Parliament yesterday to ask the Government to approve release of the funds. The farmer-backed Ravensdown is locked in a battle with Farmers Fertiliser for control of K.P., a Dunedin fertiliser producer. But after yesterday’s meeting, nobody would say whether approval would be given for the funding. Mr Elworthy told reporters, however, that the Prime Minister was sympathetic to the request. It was not the first indication of sympathy from the Government. Ravensdown would not have gone as far as it had without being sure of the Government's support if “various criteria were fulfilled.”
