Currency report
The U.S. dollar fluctuated last week but closed weaker over all, according to the diary kept by the London foreign exchange department of the Bank of New South Wales. During the week an unconfirmed report of a large North Sea oil find, together with a slower rise in the U.K. wholesale prices for June, triggered a sharp rise in sterling. However, later news of a higher borrowing requirement for July-Sep-tember by the U.K. Government took some of the increase away.
