Children naked in cage

Hooks (Texas) Texas child-welfare workers have taken custody of three children found in a wire-netting cage behind their parents’ home in Hooks, a small village near the Texas-Arkansas border. A judge granted a petition for custody by the Texas Human Resources Department’s Child Welfare Division. Sheriffs’ deputies responding to a child-abuse report found the children — two girls and a boy whom officials said were about three-years-old — naked and caked with filth in a cage two metres by three metres. A doctor who examined the children said they could not feed themselves and were not toilet trained. Mr Charles Anderson, of the Child Welfare Division, said a hearing had been set for July 14 to determine what to do with other children in the family.
