Appeal for silence
Sir, — If Barbara Thomson (June 30) had read the Prime Minister’s remarks more carefully she would have realised that there was no need to be disturbed. Mr Muldoon said that he hoped that the Opposition would back up the Government in the trade talks with the Japanese but would hope that if they felt they could not they would at least be silent. No-one would expect Labour to curb its carping criticism for long, but it and your correspondent could on this occasion have been expected to put the nation’s interest before petty politicking.—Yours, etc., J. F. GARVEY. July 1, 1978.
