Raffle for deficit
The Christchurch Arts Festival plans to mount a small raffle, this week to begin paying off its 515.500 festival deficit. The festival’s director (Mrs Helen Holmes) said yesterday that while the society was awaiting the outcome of local-body decisions on grants to meet the deficit, it would mount a fund-raising drive on “all fronts.” Particulars had not been finalised but the first step
would be a raffle, she said. Two constituent local bodies of the Town Hall Board of Management have said they would not s’toport the board in an effort to meet part of the deficit through its contributing local bodies. Other local bodies have not yet responded. An approach may be made to the Government, asking it to match the amounts put up by local bodies.
