Groups receive Park-run funds
Twelve Christchurch community groups last evening were given their share of the $l3OO raised by “The Press” Park-to-Park run on May 7. Representatives of the organisations were presented with cheques by the Christchurch South Rotary Club, which chose the recipients to give a wide coverage of youth groups. More than 30 groups applied for money from the run. The Rotary Club, Air New Zealand, and “The Press” ran the successful event, which drew an entry of more than 4000. The sales manager of “The Press” (Mr R. C. Rutherford) thanked the club on
behalf of all recipients. He emphasised the important contribution being made to the health and welfare of people in Christchurch by the city’s growing number of runners. Recipients of the grants were: the Christchurch Co-ordinating Council for the Handicapped, the Salvation Army Youth Club, Landsdowne Table Tennis Club, Rapaki-Opawa Scout Group, St John Ambulance Brigade cadet section, Hohepa Home, Canterbury Children’s Theatre, Christchurch Children’s Holiday Camp Trust, Ist Company, Christchurch Boys* Brigade, Crichton Cobbers’ Club, the Association for Disabled Skiers, and the Canterbury Asthma Society.
