Rugby tactics
Sir, — I was thrilled to watch the Wales v. Australia test on TVI on Monday evening. It was the end of the road for the tactics of the Welsh, the referee taking things into his own hands and dishing out some of the penalties the Welsh have been earning for a long time. It was not surprising to see the old red jerseys putting , hands into rucks (and boots), and sneaking up off-side at scrums and lineouts, and in response to what they thought were unjustified penalties, the Welsh decided to take it out on their opponents. I think it is a shame the Welsh cannot play rugby they way it is supposed to be played, without cheating and using foul tactics, and until they clean it up I think the men in white should keep blowing the whistle. — Yours, etc., C. PETTERSON. June 13, 1978.
