Teacher, 12 children drown
NZPA-Reuter Ville Marie, Quebec
A teacher and 12 schoolchildren have drowned after a storm struck Lake Temiscamingue in the wilds of Quebec, and overturned their canoes. The dead were in a party of 28 schoolchildren, aged between 10 and 15, and four teachers who set out on Saturday in four 5m canoes across the lake, which is in a remote area on the Ontario-Quebec border.
The sudden storm struck on Sunday, but it was not until Monday that a helicopter pilot saw two bodies, apparently roped to one of the overturned canoes.
