Animals mav get new status
PA Wellington Courts may soon be able to crrder forfeiture of animals found to have been victims of cruelty, under legislation introduced in Parliament. The Animals Protection Amendment Bill provides that where the owner of an animal is convicted of cruelty the court may order that the animal be forfeited to the Crown if it thinks this is desirable for the protection of the animal. Fines for cruelty against animals are significantly increased. :
