Easy wins to limit cyclists
By RAY CAIRNS The limit riders laughed all the way to the finish of two amateur cycling classics at the week-end. Chris Wilmot, off the front mark of 30mm in the 60kw DB harbour race on Saturday, comfortably beat a co-marker, Michael Cummack. And yesterday, on a 70km flat course in Paparua County s Alex Fraser had his first win. in the Amanda Wilks Shield race, also from 30min.
I The limit riders were unichallenged in both races. I Blair Stockwell, dropping . the rest of the scratch bunch ‘ on Saturday, finished * thirtieth, nearly 13min • behind Wilmot. When Chris 5 Hogan won the Canterbury open 80km title over the shorter Amanda Wilks ■ course (Stockwell punctured , in the final 15km) it was for I thirty-second place lOmin : behind Fraser. Yesterday’s race was : much the same, with six of i. the first seven places going i to limit riders. There was a; faint chance of the Bmin and
12min bunches going . through the field. The Bmin ; group made a consistent i effort but gathered too many I around it and lost some time i in parts of the final lap. ; The poor scratch bunch ■ had only the fastest time to : ride for. Hogan was a com- > manding sprint winner, al--1 though he was pressed hard ■ by a junior, Bruce Brunton. i Abbreviations used in the results are: Papanui (P.), Hornby Working Men’s Club (H.), Wools- » ton Workings Men’s Club (W.).
