Thieves strip house
Thieves stripped a display home on the Kensington subdivision, in Linwood early yesterday. They escaped with a houseful of new furniture and carpets — in all worth more than $2500. None of the stolen property had been recovered by last evening. Entry was gained by forcing a door. The police believe a big truck must have been used to carry off the goods. “They must have been there a while. It is a wonder someone did not notice the truck.” a C. 1.8. spokesman said. It is believed that more than one person was involved.
The display home, at the corner of Linwood Avenue and Dyers Road, is owned by Jones for Homes, Ltd. The furniture and carpets belonged to Smith’s City Market. “Whoever stole it will have pretty well everything he needs. The house was fully fitted with everything except household appliances,” said a spokesman for Smith’s City Market. items taken included a quality lounge suite, a bedroom suite and dining suite, he said. Christchurch detectives are investigating another big burglary reported yesterday. Cheques and cash to a value of $3686 were stolen after thieves forced a door to the office of World Travel.
