M.P.s condemn trial

PA Wellington Parliament has been called upon to condemn the trial in Moscow last week of Dr Yun Orlov, the founder of the dissident Helsinki Human Rights Group. The call was contained in a notice of motion by the Government member for Birkenhead (Mr J. K McLay) who said the method and verdict of the trial were in

breach of the Helsinki agreement and of fundamental human rights. Members on both sides of the House greeted Mr McLay's notice with shouts of “Hear, hear.” Dr Orlov, aged 53, a physicist, was sentenced in Moscow recently to seven years hard labour and five years exile, for anti-Soviet agnation.
