Normal School

Sir, — Over a period of 14 years, as stated by Anthony M. Walker (May 24) costs of restoration have ranged between £lOO,OOO and $2.5 million. Maybe those figures were inspired “stabs in the dark.” However, who would be likely to finance the Technical Institute students in their exercise in

design, however laudable in its conception? With so many “commercial interests,” both large and small, already endeavouring to insulate themselves against, today’s financial chill — and not a few succumbing to the temperature — today is not a propitious time to expect assistance for the students’ proposals. If the City Council can face up to cutting its coat (“new” administration headquarters) according to the cloth, then it behoves all of us to face up to realities and be equally prudent. This is not "depression” talk, just common sense. — Yours, HARVEY FOSS. May 24, 1978. |
