Orlov trial

Sir, — M. Creel obviously does not think the trial of Steve Biko was reported with bias by Western journalists. Yet when it comes

to the Orlov trial, his outrage is obvious. Possibly some of the same journalists covered this trial as well. Not even a United States embassy representative was allowed into the court room. Yuri Orlov’s crime was in daring to attempt to check that the Kremlin put its money where its mouth was, and implement the Helsinki agreement. Why does the party hierarchy always drag out its awesome clobbering machine to crush a lone dissenting voice? Its overreaction verges on paranoia. A zero unemployment graph is indeed wonderful, but it seems to nave been gained at a frightful cost. — Yours, M. LAWRENCE. May 25, 1978.
