Big week for pony folk
Pony breeders from all over New Zealand will gather in Christchurch on Friday for the annual meeting of the Pony Breeders’ Society. As well, on Friday evening, at the meeting’s venue, the Shirley Lodge Motor Hotel, the New Zealand Saddle Pony Stud Book Society will hold its annual meeting, followed by the Welsh society’s meeting on the Saturday. Sunday and Monday's activities will start with a visit to a property at Sheffield, then move to the Kirwee Show Grounds for an assembly of ponies from various studs. After lunch, there will be a parade of stock followed by a talk by saddle pony inspectors and a lecture by a veterinarian. On Monday five studs, north of Christchurch, will be visited, with a break for lunch at the Fernside Hall.
