Methven match
Entertaining and often brillian rugby highlighted the Methven XV’s 29-25 win against Cantabrians in a game which climaxed the official opening of a $930,000 combined clubs’ pavilion on the Methven Domain yesterday.
The lead changed hands seven times during the match, and Methven, led by the former All Black. Tane Norton, had to come from behind in the last few minutes.
Norton was later made an honorary life member of the Methven club in recognition of the fact that he played his first
first class game from thoro—in 1961.
Two of his former All Black colleagues, Stew Cron and Lin Davis, played for the Cantabrians and neither showed any drop tn their skills. For the Methven XV. tries were scored by John Maw, Murray McLeod (2), Paul Williams, David Wilson, and David Wilson, with Murray Straight kicking a penalty goal and a conversion. Don Stewart (2), and Ross Gibson (2) scored for Cantabrians, Clive Currie converted three, and John Neilson kicked a field goal.
