Concert offer
The Canterbury Orchestra has offered its services free for a concert in the Christchurch Town Hall. The orchestra had offered the concert subject to help from the Town Hall board, and such services as free advertising in the news media, said Mr B. P. Connell, the Town Hall manager. The proposal could become the basis for an annual concert, said Mr Connel to a meeting of the
Town Hall’s board of management. Cr Helen Garret asked whether members of the orchestra who were in a union could give a free concert. It also was said that free services would show a loss for the Town Hall, and that the proposal, aimed primarily at the young or family groups, might have limited appeal. The committee moved that the matter be investigated.
