Airliner delayed at Sydney

Air New Zealand DCB flights between Christchurch and Sydney are expected to return to normal today after delays since midday on Sunday. Three Tasman flights and about 200 passengers were affected by the delays after repairs to a DCS windscreen were needed when the aircraft arrived at Sydney on Sunday. Sunday’s scheduled flight from Sydney, normally due at 3.10 p.m.. arrived nine hours later, at 12.15 p.m. yesterday.

The initial delay of five hours was caused when tests revealed a windscreen crack. The windscreen was replaced at Sydney because “no chances are taken with aircraft pressurisation,” according to the airline's head office public affairs manager (Mr John Berry). Mr Berry said further details were not known at this stage, but the crack had not been caused by a bird strike. Sunday night’s flight from Christchurch to Sydney was [delayed until Monday "morning. by Sydneys midnight curfew, he said.
