Escapers caught
PA Whangarei The last two prisoners from a group of six who broke out of the cells at the Whangarei Police Station on Saturday night were captured by the police at 4.55 p.m. yesterday. They surrendered to the police at the north-east end of Ocean Beach, near Whangarei Heads. Both men were cold, wet, and hungry and neither offered resistance. Their capture ended a ground, sea. and air search by 45 policemen and dog units. The six men escaped from the police station’s dayroom by sawing through bars on a lavatory window.
ICE HOCKEY.— The Soviet Union won the world ice. hockey championship, beating Czechoslovakia, 3-1, in the final in Prague.
