Works issue settled

Agreement has been reached between the Meat Workers’ Union and freezing companies over the payment of .freezing workers during the one-day stoppage by clerical workers in the industry. There had been confusion about who would be paid, because some were told by the union to stay home and others turned up for work. A spokesman for the Canterbury . branch of the

union said that no claim had been made for meat workers told not to report for work, and who were therefore not paid for the day. Some meat workers who were not told to report for work, but arrived nevertheless, were paid for a four-hour call-out. The works clerks held their national stoppage on April 10 and the dispute over relativity claims was settled by arbitration later in the week.
