U.S. dollar falls in Tokyo
' NZPA-Reuter Tokyo The United States dollar ;fell to 218.15 yen on the .Tokyo foreign exchange market on Wednesday, re- ' fleeting disappointment at 'President Carter’s speech on anti-inflation steps, which did not contain any significant measures to defend the dollar.
The dollar for overnight delivery, opened at 218.20 yen, down on Tuesday’s closing price of 219.10 yen. After falling to 218.15 yen, compared with its post-war record low of 218.00 yen on April 3, the dollar recovered to 218.50 yen on importcovering, dealers said.
In an address to the American Society of Newspaper Editors, President Carter hit at the salaries of civil servants in a new antiinflation campaign involving voluntary wage and price restraint.
