Freezing works dispute
Sir, — When the freezing workers get their next pay rise — which they surely must — might I suggest that they collectively or individually donate some of their wealth not to the T.A.B. or the pub but to buying books for their local school libraries? To learn to read, child» ren must have many books. A donation of $5 a freezing worker (the average price of a new children’s hardback) would go a long way to building library collections. If the Government cannot provide satisfactory book grants to schools perhaps the freezing workers can. — Yours, etc., C. F. AMODEO. April 8, 1978. Sir, — Does C. L. D. Martin not realise that freezing workers also, through taxes, educate the children of doctors, lawyers, farmers, to name a few of the higherpaid people in this country? Some freezing workers are on a low wage, so why pick on them? To attack the children of any group of workers is not on. He talks of bleeding the employers. I would suggest the companies have bled not only the workers but the farmers as well. — Yours, etc., N. MOORE. April 11, 1978.
