Lawyer for privacy post

A Wellington barrister, Mr R. A. McGechan, has been appointed the Wanganui Computer Centre Privacy Commissioner.

He replaces Mr G. R. taking, the Chief Ombudsman. who relinquished the Privacy Commisioner’s post on April 1. The Minister of State Services, (Mr Gordon) said that Mr McGechan, a graduate of Victoria and Harvard Universities, had agreed to accept the office until a permanent Privacy Commissioner was appointed. Until his appointment, Mr McGechan represented the Law Society on the Wanganui Computer Centre policy committee. He will take leave of absence from this while he is Privacy Commissioner. Mr McGechan will continue to practise as a barrister.

The Privacy Commissioner’s office will be in the Government Life Building, Customhouse Quay, Wellington.
