Police call off search

A search for a missing Australian tramper in south Westland has been called off by the police, after checks in the region by helicopters and ground parties.
John Smith, aged 35, had put -an entry into an in« tention book at Big Bay on March 23 saying that he intended tramping north to Jackson Bay and Haast.
Nothing since has been seen or heard of him, although he was to have picked up overseas air tickets at Hamilton on March 31.
