’Copter ski-ing opposed
Parliamentary reporter The increasing popularity of helicopter ski-ing has led to proposals to use helicopters for recreational purposes in national parks in New Zealand. However, the use of any aircraft for recreation in sensitive environmental areas such as national parks has been opposed by the Nature Conservation Council. Helicopters were a source of noise and air pollution, and their use for recreation was incompatible with the values being protected, the council said.
It was the policy of the National Parks Authority to discourage the use of aircraft for recreational purposes.
