Trochee appeals in Waipukurau Cup

Special correspondent Palmerston North After his fine win in the Besley Memorial at the Waverley meeting last week, Trochee will be firmly favoured to win the Tucker Waipukurau Cup at the Waipukurau meeting tomorrow. Trochee had been off the winning list for almost 18 months before winning at Waverley, but he had been racing fairly well without much luck in that time. He had two overseas jaunts, to Sydney and Melbourne last year, without success, but nad showed with his lead-up races that he would not be long in regaining his best. That was proven with his I clear-cut win over Bleu Streak and Astelia at Waverley. Although the opposition was i not strong on that occasion, Trochee’s win was decisive and indicated that he will be capable of holding his form. Kinesis King is a genuine i stayer, but he has a solid weight I and a better prospect could be i Andrew, which, like Trochee, ! has the rich Hawke’s Bay Cup i as his mission this week. Bartelle and Credit Note aie I good provincial handicappers, I while Dandaleith’s win in the Chalmers Handicap at Trantham was a good run and one which could assure him of being well supported. Al Donte’s honest efforts so far in open sprints will earn him favouritism for the Hatuma Lime Handicap, second leg of (he i T.A.B. double. He has been placed regularly since making the top grade during the midi summer racing and will find the i testing Waipukurau run home to his liking. i Vicki Jane, which resumed ater a short let-up at Waverley, indicated she would not be long in regaining her best. That’s Dandy found a wide barrier draw too tough to overcome at Awapuni, but his form earlier was exceptionally gccd. especially over 1200 m.
