Micron retired to stud

Micron, one of the speediest pacers to have raced in recent years, has been retired and he is to do stud duty in Southland next spring at the Winton property of Hunter McHugh. Micron, by Lordship from the Morano mare, Monapat, won 11 races for Messrs Ted Graham and Doug Goslin, for whom he was trained by Jack Carmichael. He took a mile record of Imin !59sec and won more than $30,000. His third dam is the dual New Zealand Cup winner, Haughty, the first mare outside the United States to break 2min for one mile.

Micron has done extremely limited stud duty. Carmichael has a high opinion of a two-year-old filly from a Local Light mare. Micron has three yearlings and four foals and he served a few mares last spring when hopes were still being held that he would stand up to a further racing campaign. However, he failed to recover fully from an operation to remove a damaged splint bone.
