Norton. Spinks belted
NZPA-Reuter New York Ken Norton received his World Boxing Council belt last week and yesterday Leon Spinks wa? awarded his from the boxmg publication “Ring Maga.ine.” The two boxers, who could ro separate ways for the next ’ ear at least, are the heavyweight division’s first dual cham* pions since 1968, when Jimmy Ellis was the World Boxing Association title-holder and Joe Frazier held the New York W.8.C.) version of the crown. Fhat conflict was created when Muhammad Ali was stripped of :he championship for refusing army service, but was cleared up in 1970, when Frazier knocked jut Ellis. After winning the title b' outjointing Ali in February, Spinks vas stripped of recognition by he W.B.C. for refusing Io deend against Norton, who is the op contender.
