Malta puts new line
NZPA-Reuter Belgrade Maltese diplomats yesterday hoped to gain support for a compromise in a diplomatic wrangle that has so far made it impossible for the European security conference in Belgrade to end. The 35-nation meeting has been brought to a virtual standstill over a disputed Maltese demand for a Euro-pean-Mediterranean dialogue, an idea regarded with deep suspicion by both East and West.
Maltese diplomats yesterday said they w’ould offer a compromise plan, abandoning the dialogue project provided they were given assurances that Mediterranean security problems would be discussed at the next European security conference in Madrid in 1980.
