Ineson improving

By

KEVIN TUTTY

Itony Ineson, the New Zealand hockey captain, is hopeful that a knee injury which hampered him in the latter stages of last season will be sufficiently recovered to allow him to play in the club competition, starting on April 15. Ineson dislocated the knee during the Rothmans national tournament in Wanganui last August, and it troubled him again during the test series against Aus-

tralia in September. Over the summer Ineson has worked hard to get the knee hack to full working order, and it was improving slowly, he said yesterday. He has been running and using weights to strengthen the knee. Ineson gave the knee a tentative test at the first night of the indoor hockey season last week, and felt no ill effects. He did not play a full game and is unlikely to before the outdoor season begins, but if he finds in fut-

ure weeks that he has any twinges he will not play indoors. Ineson has seen a surgeon who reassured him that there was no need at this stage to operate on the knee. However, if it does prove troublesome in the future he might consider surgery. Ih the meantime he is continuing with the strengthening programme, hoping it will enable him to be available for his club side, Redcliffs, on April 15.
