Hogan, driving the Hogan and Berry Capri funny car, clocked 7.13 s for the quarter-mile. ‘ The top American, Dale ■ Pulde, broke the New Zealand records for elapsed [time and terminal speed when he hit 217.3m.p.h. and * covered the quarter-mile in. )6.6s in the L. A. Hooker.- ) Fellow American Chris I Lane, driving the Phoenix, (recorded 7.8 s at 208.3m.p.h. after a poor start, but still nearly catching the flying I Pulde at the end of the run.
