NZPA-Reuter Johannesburg The former world heavyweight boxing champion, Joe Frazier, is to come out of retirement to meet the South African champion, Gerrle Coetzee, in Johannesburg next month. Pro Boks Promotions said yesterday. A spokesman for the promoters said the fight between the black American and the white South African would take place on April 15. The fight will be "Smokin' Joe" Frazier's first since he was knocked out by George Foreman in 1976. Frazier will reportedly earn

with ancillaries more than 500,000 rand ($575,000). Coetzee will get about 90,000 rand ($103,500). Frazier's purse will be the biggest ever paid to a boxer in South .Africa. Frazier, 34, announced his retirement after 12 years in the ring in June, 1976, following his defeat by Foreman. He won the world heavy-weight title by beating Jimmy Eilis in 1970, but tost the crown to Foreman in January, 1973. After leaving the ring, Frazier launched himself in a new career as a night club singer complete with his own band, singers and dancers.
