Man who injured boy jailed
• J PA Auckland' A man who beat a six-, year-oid boy and left him unconscious for four days; with possible brain damage; was sentenced to three; years prison when he ap-i peared for sentence in the* Magistrate’s Court at Hen-i derson yesterday. William Adrian Perry,; aged 34, an unemployeds freezing worker, of Massey,, had previously admitted a) charge of injuring Magnus; Steven Pen, aged six, with! intent to cause grievous! bodily harm. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of injuring Lilia j' Malaine Nathan, aged 10. with intent. Mr T. G. Maxwell, S.M., I sentenced Perrv to two years; and a half imprisonment on this charge, to be served) concurrently with the othe: ’ sentence. Mr Maxwell, in passing) sentence, said: “There seems) to be little doubt that as a! result of your cruelty the) boy will be permanently dis- j abled.” A great burden lay upon schools to observe traits' which may indicate neglect I of children and to refer the) matter to the social welfare) authorities, Mr Maxwell said.. Ngawai Peri, aged 30, a! housewife. of Massey,) pleaded guilty to charges of; failing to exercise proper' care and control over her children. The Magistrate convicted: and remanded her in custody) to March 13 for a probation) report and sentence.
