Oyster dispute settled
PA Invercargill The Bluff oyster dispute has been settled and the season will open on Thursday, weather permitting. Gales in Foveaux Strait are all that will stop all 2.3 boats in the Blutt fleet sailing on Thursday. A five-hour meeting between the Oyster-Boat Owners’ Association and the Oystermen's Society resulted yesterday in an agreement. Neither side would comment on the price which will be paid per sack to the oystermen, but it is believed to be 20c more than last season. However, there is speculation that if a further agreement is not worked out on a dispute over the Sundays and overtime worked by the oystermen there may be further repercussions before the end of the season.
