Finances healthy for league
Even though it was required to make some particularly high payments towards the development of the Show Grounds, the Canterbury Rugby League is in a healthy financial position.
The balance sheet, to be presented to the league’s annual meeting on Wednesday evening, shows a net income of $2909. The development fund now stands at $82,499 and the general funds total $26,306.
During the 1977 financial year, the league made payments of $71,900 to the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, all but $5OOO being rental paid in advance. The bulk of the money was used to roof the new grandstand at the Show Grounds. There was also an over-all increase in expenditure of more than $13,000, largely caused by . higher, rentals, interest charges I and administrative expenses. | That was counteracted by revenue from the sales of season 'tickets.
