World title bid for ice-skater
The outstanding New Zealand artistic ice skater, Katie Symmonds, of Auckland, will be' trying to establish herself in international competition when she competes in the world championships at Ottawa from March 7 to 12. Miss Symmonds has been , competing in free and figure skating since she settled in New Zealand about five years ago. She has won the national intermediate championship and last year became the New Zealand senior women’s champion. Miss Symmonds has been training assiduously for the world title. For the last year she has been under the guidance of a top Australian coach and since Christmas she has been training at Colorado Springs, where her preparation has been supervised by three American coaches. The Auckland skater will be attached to the Australian team at the championships.
