Curtailment of flights
Sir,—The news of the reduction in air services between Christchurch and Australia is disturbing when taken in conjunction with the history of the LytteltonWellington ferry service. When there was a daily ferry' service it was well used, reliable and convenient for businessmen, and a boon to families. Then came the Wahine disaster, and the replacement of two smaller vessels by one larger one with its necessarily intermittent time-table. Inevitably the service became unsatisfactory for businessmen. Patronage fell off. One can see history' repeating itself with planes to and from Christchurch. Other factors need consideration—comfort, pleasantness of travel, time spent embarking and disembarking. In these, the smaller regular service is superior. —Yours, etc., . B. ROBERTS. March 3, 1978.
