PA Wellington The Chief Ombudsman (Mr G. R. taking), yesterday! resigned his post as Privacy : Commissioner under the Wa-1 nganui computer centre. Mr taking said that in the j minds of many people his i office had become associated! with the running of the: centre, for which he had no! responsibility. “That, in my view, is un-t desirable, and accordingly it seems to me better that the functions of Privacy Com-. missinner should be assumed! by someone who does not suffer from the same inhib-l itions.” Mr taking said. Mr taking handed his res-; ignation to take effect from l April 1. to the Prime Minis-: ter (Mr Muldoon) yesterday. - He had told the Minister j in Charge of State Services . (Mr Gordon) last November: of his intention to give up! the post. The experience of' the last year had confirmed’ his views, Mr taking said. • He said the procedures he had developed for handling ! requests for printouts were! working smoothly.
